My DWA's

 Joy

Author's note: In this piece I will be telling you about our second half of our vacation which we went to visit our Aunt and Uncle who live in Scottsdale, Arizona. I will be trying to tell you this story in past tense. I hope you enjoy!

I can remember these three amazing days almost as if they were yesterday. The sun was shining, all the flowers were in bloom, not to mention it was 85 degrees outside. We had just arrived at My aunt Barb and uncle Larry's house just after lunch. When we had pulled into their drive way we were all in complete awe. There were these beautiful bright pink flowers lining every wall! At that very moment I could tell that this was going to be one of my favorite vacations ever!

When we parked our car my aunt and uncle had come running out of their house to greet us.  When we had all finished hugging each other we had carried our bags in and set them  down in our rooms. When we had finished putting all of our stuff away we had walked into their living room and started watching Indiana Jones. In the middle of the movie my mom had  brought out our favorite dice game and taught Barb and Larry how to play it. We had played that for about an hour and a half until Gracie my sister beat me by 50 points! I had gotten do mad I started rolling on the ground screaming. After about five minutes I had finally calmed down and finished watching the movie. Once the movie was over my family and I had set the table and we finally ate dinner. When the dinner was over we all got situated in our beds and finally fell asleep.

In the morning we had all slept in until around 10 o'clock. Once we all woke up we had started breakfast; eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, coffee or orange juice. When we had all  served ourselves we dug in! We all ate for about an hour. Once we were done eating we all got our swimsuits on and jumped in the pool! My mom and I swam for about a half hour then we started tanning. We tanned for about 5 hours then we went out for dinner with our aunt and uncle. When we got there we found out it was Mexican and got super excited. We all rushed inside and got a table. It was about a 10 minute wait until we sat down. When we sat down we ordered our drinks and looked at the menu. When everyone decided what they wanted we had ordered. I had gotten a flower enchilada. It was delicious. Once everyone was done eating my sisters and I hopped in our uncles car while my mom, dad, and aunt headed to the casino.

When we got home we had popped in Lion King and made popcorn. During the whole movie I was singing along to the songs. When the part where Simba's dad died I started tearing up. My sister looked at me like I was the wierdest person ever. I gave her an evil glare and finished watching the movie. Once the movie was over I had gotten my pajamas on and went to bed.

The next morning I woke up and walked to the kitchen. When I got there I made myself a cup of coffee and a bowl of cereal. Once I finished eating I head to my room to get ready for church. Once I sort through all my clothes I finally decide what I'm going to wear; My long grey t-shirt dress, my orange scarf, and my strappy gladiators. Once I finish getting my clothes on I apply my eyeliner, mascara and blush and head to the car. Once we arrive to the church I could tell that it was going to be different than my church in Wisconsin before we even went inside. When we got inside we saw how different it was, there were people singing everywhere! When the mass started it was pretty much singing through the whole church. When it was over I was super relieved that I didn't have to sing anymore. We drove home and got changed into some more casual clothes and went shopping. We had went to this boutique that was called 'Your sister's closet.'

It was pretty much all grown up clothes that were super ugly except for this one cute tribal patterned dress. I tried it on and fell absolutely in love with it. When I showed it to my mom she said no because there was this huge hole in the side of it that I didn't notice before. When my mom checked out with this one cute jacket she bought we stopped at a frozen yogurt place then went home. When we got home we had slipped our swimsuits on and went swimming again.

That night after dinner we had packed everything up and went to bed right away. A few hours later at 4 o'clock in the morning we headed out to the airport and went home. I had slept most of the way home dreaming about all the fun things we did in Arizona and how much I can't wait to get back there.

Author’s note: This is the second out of two writing pieces for my District Writing Assessment(DWA) and it will be in the form of a nonfiction piece. My goal in this piece is to hit all 6 of the writing rubric areas and try to get at least a low proficient on all of the areas.

I suddenly wake up screaming. My parents rush in to find me crying in my bed. They sprint to my aid, and hold me in their arms until I stop crying. They ask me what's wrong, I think to myself, 'What should I say? What will they say? How will they react? They probably remember that day also. The day that I stopped trusting people. That horrible day my house burned down.' While all the horrible thoughts are rushing through my head I utter out only two words, "The fire."

It had started off like any other afternoon, I had to go to the sports I have today. Today it was soccer practice, then straight to basketball practice. Once I finally finished getting dressed for soccer and packed for basketball I heard a car beep its horn from outside. I ran outside and hopped into my friends car and we headed off for soccer. When we got there we ran to our practice and got started. For the hour and a half we run and do drills to help us improve our soccer skills. Once soccer is finished I sprint to my mom's car and we race off to basketball. Once I reach the gym I already have all my basketball stuff on and I grab a ball and start practicing. About halfway through practice my coach gets a call. While we are all standing there waiting for him to finish his phone call, nnce he finally hangs up he tells me that my mom is here and I have to leave now. I slowly walk out of practice as I see my mom in our car crying her eyes out. I sprint as fast as I can to the car and hop in. I ask her what's wrong, but she can only utter out one word, "Fire."

When I heard my mother say that dreadful word I could feel my stomach drop. I slowly buckled my seat belt as the rest of the world turned into a huge blur. Once we reach our house it is completely black and about to crumble down. Right at that moment I  feel the tears start flowing out of my eyes like Niagara Falls. I stumble out of the car and fall to the ground unable to hold my body up.

Later I wake up in the Hospital. I quickly look around in fear for my parents. While I am whipping my head back and forth in fright a nurse sees me and gets my doctor. He tries to calm me down and tells me that I passed out at the fire because I was too overwhelmed with everything and that I needed to stay here for a few days. I started screaming to him how I have to get home and look for and remains of anything and he tells me to calm down as he putss something into one of the tubes that are in my arm and I suddenly fall asleep, and drift back into reality.

As that horrible day flashes through my head one more time, I let one more tear drop run down my face but then remember this quote I had once read in a book, 'Trials give you strength, sorrows give understanding and wisdom. ~Chuck T. Falcon'  Now I think I finally get what that quote means. I slowly tell my parents to go back to their room and I lay back  down on my bed. 'Time to face my loss and forget about it.'  I slowly start to slip back into a deep sleep. Right before I fully slip into sleep I smell something like smoke. 'It's probably just my imagination,' I think to myself.  Then I finally slip into the darkness of my sleep.

The four princesses of far, far away.

Once upon a time in a far, far away land there lived a small group of girls that were all wicked stepsisters. The wicked stepsisters were named: Eva Rotten Tortola, Selena heartbreak chancery, Sophia beastly Montoya and Cassandra Royale Percival. They had all the latest gowns and crowns. Plus their fathers were the kings of 4 kingdoms that joined together. Every day on the way to princess school they would tease and laugh at all the peasant girls that had to walk to their regular school. One day on the way to school they saw a carriage more magnificent and they grew very jealous.

That day after school they each ran up to their wise fathers and asked for a bigger carriage but their fathers replied kindly, “Sorry princesses, but that would be too greedy and terrible, so we shall not do it.”

The young princesses were so angry that they went and ordered the royal carriage buyer to secretly go and buy a carriage without the kings knowing. The royal carriage rider was so scared that he went and told the kings about the girls demand. The kings got so angry that they banished the princesses from the kingdom.

The princesses were so mad at their doing that they became blinded of anger that they became each other’s enemies, and soon afterword they each got a job at the same place. The former princesses were very angry for having to work with each other that they started ruining the shop and got fired. They were very sad that they forgave each other and got another job together.

After four years of them working they finally got enough money to buy the supplies for 1 house that they would share and a carriage. After about 2 more years they finally finished building the house and lived until each of them got a husband and moved away.
