The Giver (book)

Author's note: My goal in this writing piece is to best describe the book I read, which is called The Giver. Also to tell you about the people and Jonas in this book.

Snow. What does that word mean to you? To the characters in The Giver this word means nothing to them, they think this word is a made up word with no meaning at all. That's what I'm going to write about. The people in The Giver and how they are so different from us.

They are different so different from us that they are color blind. That's right they only see black and white. That means that they don't believe in any colors once so ever. Only Jonas and the Giver can see colors. Technically only Jonas now since the Giver gave Jonas the sight of colors from him so he can't see them anymore. I feel so bad for the Giver. That brings me to my next subject.

While they are colored blind they also don't have any feelings. Well, technically they only have the feeling of happiness. You probably already guessed this but only Jonas has feelings because the Giver gave him the feelings no other person has had besides past givers. Also in one chapter of the book Jonas watched his dad release a baby and he got mad at him for releasing an innocent baby, but Jonas finally realized it wasn't his dad's fault because he didn't have feelings.

With all of his people's faults Jonas finally got fed up with his people. Can you guess what he did? He grabbed the next baby assigned for a release, some clothes, and some food, his dad's bike and ran away. He road the bike duriing the night and slept during the day. Then one night he fell off the bike so he rode during the day from then on. Finally one day when he was riding his bike it started snowing. He rode throught the snow all the way untill he got to a hill. When he got to the top of the hill he found the sled and he to the baby wrapped it up and slid down the hill.

My monologue for drama

Good evening, Mrs. Audience,
And Mr. Audience, too;
I hope you're glad to see me,
And will like me 'fore I'm through.
I'm here to bid you welcome,
I'm sure I like your style;
We'll soon become right friendly
If you will only smile.

I'll try to entertain you
With monologue and rhyme--
But if you won't assist me
We'll have a dreadful time.
The world is full of worry,
Let's forget it for a while,
And take a trip to Funland--
So stretch your mouth and smile.

Some speakers talk of trouble,
Of pessimistic creeds,
But just an S-M-I-L-E [spell]
Is all the old world needs.
Be gay, enthusiastic,
And cheerful all the while,
Forget your gloom and worries,
And smile, smile, smile!

And now the ice is broken,
We're friends, that's how it stands,
And if you feel as I do,
You'll tell me with your hands, [Pantomimes applause]
With song and jest and story,
I shall an hour beguile;
I'll do my best to please you,
If you'll smile, smile, smile!

Why we should have free periods in middle school.

Author's note: My goal in this writing piece is to have good idea developement and content. Also I want my voice to be heard by starting my paragraphs with a good beginning sentence, and organization.

During the day I get so tired doing all this work. I'm always thinking how the high schoolers are lucky to have a free period. Where they can go home and relax while you do your homework and projects, and not have to sit in the stiff chairs we have to always sit in. I mean sitting in the academy couches in the front is nice. But not every classroom has comfy couches in them so they probably want to have a free period also.

My first reason that we should have a free period, is that everyone needs a longer break than just 30 minutes a day during lunch. Plus since we don't have recess anymore, so we don't really have any time besides lunch to take our mind off of the excruciating work that we have to do in Academy 21.

In addition to that. What if someone doesn't have wifi at their house? They would late homework practically everyday. But guess what will happen if we have a free period? Kabamoo! Half of the late homework disappears because most of the students have time to do all of their homework!

Also, we should have a free period for kids just to relax. What if a kid is having a really stressful day at school. Well, when his free period comes he can just sit down and relax, walk to the library or even grab a bite to eat at the chocolate factory. And by the time he gets back to school for his next free period he is back to normal and has no stress at all!

Finally, we should have a free period so some of us can sleep in. The free period would help us early in morning because then we could sleep in and get enough sleep so we son't fall asleep during class and actually remember what we are getting taught to us, or in people in Academy 21's case what we are teaching ourselves. Also this would help because the buses always come early so we miss the bus but now we could catch the younger kids bus and not be late for class.

Scientific process

Problem: Does the current affect the certain amounts of chemicals in the water.

Hypothesis: Yes, it does impact the certain chemical levels because the water could flow in certain chemicals while still areas don't let any new chemicals flow in.

Experimental design:
Materials:
Chemical testing kit.
Water from certain areas.
Pencil
Paper

Variables:
CV- The river, the water, the testing supplies
DV- How much chemicals were in the water.
IV- How much test analysis stuff you had to put in it.

Procedure:
To do our project we had to walk down to the river. We checked the weather before we left so we know it wouldn't be bad weather. Then we each went to our own spots on the river. We each got our own chemical analysis kit. We take out the water sample tube's and we fill them up with water. We took out any extra water that was in the tubes, and added the chemicals that needed to be added. We kept doing that for all the analysis's. Then we wrote down all the results. Finally, we cleaned out the tube's and put all the material away.
  1. Ammonia Nitrogen - Yellow, positive
  2. pH - green, pH 8
  3. Chlorine- clear, negative
  4. Chromium- clear, negative
  5. Copper- clear, negative
  6. Cyanide- clear, negative
  7. Iron- clear, negative
  8. Nitrate nitrogen- pink, positive
  9. Phosphorus- clear, negative
  10. Silica- light blue, positive
  11. Sulfide- yellow, negative
Conclusion and Analysis:
My group wanted to see if the current affected the certain chemicals in the water. We hypothesized that it affected it by having more chemicals in the area that has more water running through it versus where the water is still. Our analysis proved that we were right, that places had a good amount of chemicals where the current was running though it, and where was little to no chemicals where there wasn't a current.

After doing the analysis we realized that we were right because whenever new water flows in new chemicals flow in, while where there is no current there is no new chemicals flowing in and the old chemicals die.

The problem though was that we had to collect all the water right away because they opened up part of the dam to let some new water flow in and raise the water level. We tried to get the water perfect but the water might have gotten old and the chemicals died.

Why we should have uniforms. (my persuasive essay)

Author's note: My purpose for writing this piece is so people see that I think we should have uniforms. My goal for this writing piece is that I can be very persuasive and have good organization and word choice.

When I wake up, I start sorting through all of my clothes to find the right thing to wear. If only there was something that would help eliminate that problem. Maybe there is. To ensure equality of dress and opportunity for accessorizing, everyone should have to wear uniforms.

I think we should have to wear uniforms because people would never be able to break dress code. Plus then people could accessorize it but never over accessorize it. That's a good thing because people would be able to show their personality but still follow the rules.

Plus it would help all the teachers a lot. It would help them because they wouldn't have to stress about the dress code rule to the kids. Also they wouldn't have to worry about anyone leaving any extra clothing that the kids wear, like sweatshirts, sweaters, jackets, etc. This rule would also help the teachers by not having to worry about their kids wearing any extra accessories that hang off of them, like chains, annoying bracelets(that would also help the other kids) , and stuff like that.

In conclusion, to decide what uniform we would wear we could have a design contest, or something and have the students decide what uniform they like best. That would work because it would be school appropriate, the kids would be happy, and we wouldn't have to stress over what we are going to be wearing tomorrow.

Limericks

Author's note: My goal is to have funny but weird Limericks, and be able to think of more than 1 of them.

There once was a jerk from far away
He liked to play with old clay.
He finally sat,
But ended up getting fat.
Then he wasted away everyday.

Why, oh why did he move
When he danced he moved to the groove.
I miss him so much,
that I would clutch,
but then everyone would disapprove.

Diamonte's

Author's note: I want to try to be very creative with these and get many of them done.

Kiley kicked Kendall's kickball like a kangaroo.

Beatrice bet Betty that Bill bit Bob's basketball.

Lanny liked to lick lollipops like Louis.
